The annual Supply House Times Premier 150 Rankings are in and The Macomb Group once again shined in the top 10 among national PVF distributors. This would not have been accomplished without the continued dedication and diligence of Macomb’s leaders and employees.
The 2024 Premier 150 Distributors Survey is conducted annually by Supply House Times and BNP Media Market Research, the parent company. The national publication ranked The Macomb Group number 7 nationally among the Industrial Pipe-Valve-Fitting segment for PVF distributors and in the top 35 nationally among combined PVF, plumbing, heating, cooling and piping (PHCP) distributors. The rankings are based on reported sales for the previous fiscal year.
According to Supply House Times this year is “the first in three years to show any decrease in overall sales amongst participating PHCP-PVF wholesaler-distributors. In both 2021 and 2022, 100% of survey takers reported an increase in total sales. In 2023 that number dropped to 66% meaning 25% of companies had a decrease in sales while 9% reported that sales remained the same.” Despite this trend, The Macomb Group has been fortunate enough to see growth including expansions and acquisitions.
In a recent interview, Scott Henegar, Chief Operating Officer and Brandon Perilli, Chief Purchasing Officer at The Macomb Group discussed the survey results and the company’s state of business.
Q: How would you describe the year 2023 at The Macomb Group?
Henegar: An amazing period of opportunity and growth in every corner of our company. Starting with the merger of Deacon Industrial Supply, which cemented our presence in the Mid-Atlantic, we also added two more branches (Columbus and Raleigh) to our growing footprint in the Midwest and Southeast in 2023.
Q: What were the challenges Macomb faced in 2023?
Henegar: To meet the demands of such rapid growth, we have repeatedly leaned on support teams, departments, and individuals throughout Macomb Group who are responsible for our infrastructure. It has been no small task, but we are fortunate to have capable leaders empowered in key roles to meet those demands and challenges. Further, as our scale grows we continue to attract new talent to fuel our support teams and new pursuits.
Q: Given the increasing demand for material due to the company’s growth, how are you navigating the supply chain to keep up?
Perilli: Post-COVID availability of material is much better than it was during COVID. While some material can still be difficult to get our hands on, business has continued to be strong. Some of the availability issues we are experiencing today have forced us to get more creative to get our customer base what they need when they need it. Thankfully our volume allows us to work with multiple vendors on most products so we have been able to keep up with the strong demand. Overseas shipments still seem to be a bit slower than usual, so we have ramped up some of our inventory levels to compensate for the longer-than-usual lead times.
Q: What is Macomb seeing so far in 2024 in terms of growth?
Henegar: First and foremost our main objective in 2024, as it is in every year, is daily excellence in our core function… service to our customers. Our growth strategy is anything that contributes to better serve our mission statement to those customers….Built to Say “Yes”. We continue to pursue opportunities for that purpose with more announcements in the coming months.
