Among The Macomb Group’s various specialty divisions, the Fire & Fabrication Division holds a special place within the company.
With a mission to preserve and protect lives and property, this division takes on particular significance during October’s National Fire Prevention Month. Here’s a closer look at the capabilities and operations of our Fire Fab team.
The division operates out of six locations: Sterling Heights, MI; Akron, OH; Harleysville, PA; Charlotte, NC; Carlstadt, NJ; and Lawrenceville, GA. It supplies licensed fire protection contractors and engineers with a wide range of products, including sprinkler and suppression systems, standpipes, fire extinguishers, and specialty hazard protection systems.
Even at branches without dedicated fabrication shops, The Macomb Group delivers the same precision, quality, and reliability that fire protection professionals depend on. Through a coordinated network of Fire & Fabrication facilities and an in-house fleet of more than 100 trucks, every branch can process and fulfill fire system orders quickly and accurately.
“The Macomb Group’s Fire Protection division’s primary goal is to safeguard human lives by preventing injuries and loss of life during a fire,” says Nate Sharpless, Mid-Atlantic Regional Division Manager. “Additionally, it aims to protect property and ensure the continuity of operations by minimizing fire damage.”
He adds, “To achieve this, Macomb partners with our fire protection contractor engineers and installers. The engineered fabrication plans and material lists are provided to Macomb by the installing contractor, and The Macomb Group takes it from there.”
Once received, Macomb Group technicians cut, thread, groove, and weld pipe to the contractor’s specifications, supplying all necessary components for system installation.
Following fabrication, materials are loaded onto delivery trucks and transported to the job site on the specified date and time.
“The Macomb Group Fire Protection group is a one-stop shop for our many valued contractor partners, allowing them to stay on schedule and budget for their numerous projects,” Sharpless notes.
“Our close working relationships, technical knowledge, and open lines of communication with our vendor partners allow us to provide top-of-the-line product offerings to our contractors at competitive prices,” Sharpless concludes.
In addition to fostering close relationships with fire suppression contractors across the company’s regions, The Macomb Group has also cultivated strong partnerships with many of the leading manufacturers in the fire protection industry.
That strong support network also extends to non-fabrication hubs like Indianapolis and Jeffersonville, Indiana — where Macomb serves fire protection customers with the same dedication and precision as its fabrication centers.
“We stay competitive through strong customer relationships and local territory presence,” says Max Von Drachenberg, Outside Sales at Macomb’s Indianapolis branch. “We maintain local inventory, coordinate closely with our fab facilities, and offer quick turnarounds. It’s about being a reliable and involved customer partner.”
Even without on-site fabrication, non-fab branches play a crucial logistical role in supporting customers’ timelines.
“With our fabrication being done offsite, we rely on our hubs to be efficient and concise,” Max explains. “That coordination streamlines the process and keeps fabrication on schedule, ensuring materials arrive when customers expect them — and ultimately, supporting their project timelines.”
The hub model allows Macomb to remain responsive and flexible — especially in growing markets like Indiana.
“Indiana takes pride in supporting our fire protection contractors,” Max adds. “With the hub model, we’re able to stage inventory closer to their projects, reduce lead times, and keep their crews working.”
Macomb’s customer-first approach is one reason the team continues to earn trust across the region.
Why Fire Protection Contractors Choose Macomb
Beyond our capabilities, what truly sets The Macomb Group’s Fire & Fabrication Division apart is our focus on service, resources, and reliability — all of which contribute to a superior customer experience.
Service and Responsiveness:
Our division is built around urgency and reliability. We know fire protection contractors need to mobilize quickly, and our team is committed to meeting that demand. We consistently maintain fabrication lead times under two weeks, often delivering within a week. This schedule certainly is critical in keeping projects on track and crews in the field.
Depth of Resources:
Several of our fabrication hubs are embedded within full-scale PVF distribution centers, giving our customers the advantage of larger inventories, more delivery assets, and stronger support teams. This integrated model offers a level of reliability and speed that few standalone fabricators can match.
Breadth of Inventory:
We maintain a wide range of materials ready for deployment — including Schedule 10, 40, and 80 pipe up through 24” (black, galvanized, and seamless), along with stainless 304 and 316 in Schedule 10 and 40. Our full inventories of grooved and threaded fittings, couplings, and complementary fire protection materials allow us to support projects of nearly any size without delay or reliance on outside sources.
From fabrication to fulfillment — and from regional hubs to local delivery — The Macomb Group’s Fire & Fabrication Division is built around the contractor experience. With a focus on high-quality fabrication, fast lead times, robust inventory, and responsive local support, we’re proud to be the supplier that fire protection contractors trust to help get the job done — safely, efficiently, and on budget.
