Deacon Industrial Supply Co., A Macomb Group Company, serves natural gas utility companies across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions with a variety of gas distribution products, including pipe, valves, and valve automation products, delivering the needed energy to industrial, commercial, and residential users.
Deacon’s recent merger with The Macomb Group provides the opportunity to expand our footprint, according to Tal Pendergast, Director of Sales for Gas Distribution.
“Our association with Macomb can certainly make that happen,” Pendergast says. “We could expand our reach into the Midwest and Southeast, representing a huge growth opportunity.”
Pendergast notes that Deacon’s gas distribution sales activity has already been increasing as utilities work to update their infrastructure. “Most of the utilities are on accelerated programs to update their distribution systems, the result of several catastrophic leaks, which resulted in a government mandate,” according to Pendergast. Much of the work involves converting older cast iron distribution lines to polyethylene piping.
In addition, he adds that gas utilities will require robust distribution systems to meet projected increased customer demand. For example, the U.S. Department of Energy predicts that natural gas demand could outpace production (including imports) by as much as 1 billion cubic feet per day this year.
Much of that demand stems from conversion projects nationwide as electric utilities convert their coal-fired generating stations to natural gas power.
All this activity points to anticipated demand for the gas distribution products supplied by Deacon, especially with the enhanced reach provided by The Macomb Group. “We’re preparing to service even more utilities beyond those in our traditional regions,” Pendergast concludes.
