This month, we celebrate Women’s History Month to remind ourselves of the accomplishments of women throughout the years to our culture, our society, and our economy. From science to politics to business, it’s a chance to reflect on the trailblazing women who have lead the way for change, then and now. The Macomb Group appreciates and wishes to thank all the women on our team.
“I think Women’s History Month is a good time to set aside and recognize and reflect on the many contributions women have made throughout history,” says Meagan Shankland, who serves as branch manager at The Macomb Group’s Lansing, Mich. location, and oversees the Grand Rapids-Lansing-Kalamazoo region for the company.
Shankland, who began her career in 2007 as an inside sales representative, said that her initial job gave her the opportunity to gain extensive product knowledge across the company. “During that time,” she said, “I learned quite a lot, and to this day, as a manager, I continue to learn about all aspects of the business.”
She reflected on the changing roles for women in what’s been traditionally a male-dominated industry.
“When I started in sales, people would phone in, and when I answered, they would ask to speak to ‘one of the guys.’ I never took it personally but continued building product knowledge and customer relations. Today, I have many customers who will call and ask specifically for me. I forged my own path.”
Shankland looks at her role at The Macomb Group with great satisfaction.
“Overall, it’s been just the greatest experience. I never anticipated this would turn out to be a career. I enjoy the people I work with and the day-to-day successes and challenges the job brings. It has been the greatest blessing for me and my family.”
